Here is how to test the windshield washer pump: To inspect the pump, turn your ignition to the accessory position. Push the sprayer button and pay attention to the whining or buzzing sound fromAnswered by Honest John. This is usually caused by sludge in the washer reservoir blocking the mesh filter for the pump. A quick fix is to get a hosepipe, shove it right into the bottom of the washer reservoir, hold it there, then get someone else to turn on the tap. That blasts all the crud out of the reservoir. Turn the vehicle off. The vehicle's engine should not be running, and the vehicle should not be in accessory mode. Note: Many newer vehicles will keep the radio on, even when the car is turned off until a door is opened. Open the driver’s door and lock the door. Close the driver’s door. Wait two minutes and ensure the radio display turns off. Connecting one wire to ground will operate the pump in one direction and connecting the other wire to ground will make it run in the other direction. If doing that makes the pump work correctly then the fault is the switch. If it does not work correctly then the fault will be with the BCM. Quote. 7ArUO.
