its lighter and more compact then most AKs, but you have the draw back of not being as indestructable as the AK. the VZ-58 needs to be kept "clean" and oiled to run at optimum. i would say if you already have a nice AK then a VZ-58 would be a good addition to your collection.

The mag release latch is smaller than on an AK. The push a mag out with the next mag technique is not an option here. At first I thought it would be awkward for a lefty to manipulate the safety, but on further study, a lefty can manipulate it with his forefinger. The safety on the Vz 58 is a slight improvement over the AK.
Due to the lack of the auto sear, you need a tab on your carrier to keep the disconnector from engaging the sear too soon. If you take your carrier out and look down into the fire control group, you will see the rounded arm of the disconnector sticking up on the left side. This is on the trigger pin. Notice that the disconnector catches on the
Both in the down position are on safe, the Vz 58 rotates facing forward, the Vz 2008 rotates facing back. Both rotate only 90 degrees. Another difference, the trigger guard. Seems there is two different trigger guards, at least listed on the Numrich site, one wide, one narrow. The Century, at least my example, seems to have the wide guard

The KRASA is the AK74 if the VZ-58 is the Czech equivalent to the AKM pattern rifle. It utilized a rearward feeding system that enabled it to have an incredible small OAL, being a little over 22” unfolded and just over 12” folded. With models in both 7.62x39 and 5.45x39, this firearm was intended to be the equivalent to the Russian AK74.
The Czechpoint/CSA and D-Technik guns are good with the edge going to CSA. The CSA guns use a German Lothar-Walther cold hammer forged barrel which may very well be the finest piece of steel beaten in to shape of the 762x39. The Vz-58s are milled but are lighter than most AKMs even.
