Hi spbl1nd, Welcome to MySwissAlps. Yes, combining a trip to Jungfraujoch and Grindelwald First in one day is certainly possible. If you plan to do a lot of adventure activities on Grindelwald First, I suggest taking the earliest train to Jungfraujoch and make your way down before lunch time. From Lauterbrunnen, I suggest taking the following

Save. The main trail from Lauterbrunnen up to Wengen is wide and well groomed all year however it is uphill the whole way. Not particularly steep but up hill none the less. I believe the posted time from the sign across from the woodworking shop in Lauterbrunnen (across the river) up to Wengen (train station) is 1 hr 15 min.

Once you've hiked to Kleine Scheidegg (about 2 1/2 miles) you can take the train from Kleine Scheidegg down to Lauterbrunnen. Another easy lovely hike is from Kleine Scheidegg. Cross the train tracks, and there's an easy hiking path along the tracks to Wengernalp, where you can take the train down to Lauterbrunnen.

The Obersteinberg mountain hostel. About 2 1/2 hours hiking from Stechelberg at the end of the Lauterbrunnen valley. You can hike to Stechelberg by hiking from Wengen south through Stalden down over the Trummelbach to the valley floor. About 3 1/2 hrs from Wengen to Trummelbach. 2. The Schilthorn hut maintained by the SAC and the Murren Ski Club.

I would do option number 2. With option 1, you will have the best views behind you during the hike, whereas with 2 you will be walking towards the view. There's a third option, which perhaps involves less doubling back: Wengen-Lauterbrunnen-Grindelwald (train) Grindelwald-Männlichen (cable car) Männlichen - Kleine Scheidegg (walk)
There are plenty of exciting trails that will show you Switzerland’s rigorous yet rewarding mountains. Some of the best trails in Lauterbrunnen are: the Tanzbodeli Overlook, Mountain First to Schynige Platte, Männlichen to Wengen, Lauterbrunnen to Trummelbach Falls, Obersteinberg Loop, and the Chilchabalm Loop. Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland makes a good base if you are looking to explore the beautiful Bernese Alps and valleys. Nestled in between soaring mountains, Lauterbrunnen valley is best known for its many waterfalls. This area has been an inspiration to writers including J.R.R. Tolkien and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes.

You can go up one way, and down the other way for a beautiful round trip. Option 1: cable car from Wengen to Männlichen. Wengen can be reached by train from Lauterbrunnen. If you arrive by car, you’ll have to park in Lauterbrunnen and change to the train. From the railway station of Wengen, it’s a 5-minute walk to the cable car valley station.

Definitely the train will be easier. You can get a walking pass for 1-5 days I think, and it is good on all trains in the area, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, Interlaken, Wengen, Kleine Scheidegg and even Eigergletscher. You can check out the different passes on the Jungfrau website.
Hoping to book a few nights in Wengen, and are looking at Alpenrose. We have a concern regarding the walk uphill to the main area in town. We are a 70ish couple in ok shape, but not the spring chickens we used to be and the knees may be an issue. Can anyone speak in details about the walk up that reported steep ,little hill? Thanks, Donna
1 | INTERLAKEN. Interlaken, Switzerland is the gateway to the Lauterbrunnen Valley and Jungfrau Region. It means “between the lakes” because it is nestled between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Of all the places we mention in this video, Interlaken is the closest to the big cities and Swiss airports. [Show map] Wengen is a traditional, car-free holiday resort that offers a family-friendly skiing and hiking area around the Männlichen and the Kleine Scheidegg. The path leads to Lauterbrunnen, in the valley of the same name, which is world-famous for its 72 waterfalls. Both villages are very well-known and popular holiday resorts. In the area there are many hiking trails with beautiful views of the
I flew Swiss Air direct from Los Angeles to Zurich. From Zurich, it is a two-hour (beautiful!) drive to Lauterbrunnen. Wengen is a car-free town so when you arrive in Lauterbrunnen you can leave your car there at the multi-level parking garage at the Lauterbrunnen Railway Station. Parking is about $20 per day.

A walk at the Allmendhubel level above Murren is beautiful . Ofcourse,if you are there to visit “the big ones”Wengen is more convenient for the Jungfrau excursion and Murren much nearer the Schilthorn. In the end, whichever village you choose, you will have so much to do you will want to return. Can you see Jungfrau from Murren?
